10/9/17: The Constructed Portrait

Most of the time I'm pretty discouraged because of the lack of free time I have to shoot and create. School takes up most of time so I'm at sort of an advantage being a photography student. I'm in a photography class called Directorial Mode where we learn the ways of "directing" photography as opposed to just shooting what catches our eye. This class forces me to shoot for my SCHOOL WORK and so it's incredibly convenient and it kills two birds with one stone.

On the minus side, I can't always shoot what I please for this project, but on the plus side it gets me way out of my comfort zone. Our second project was titled the Constructed Portrait where we had to photograph one singular person in 5 completely different and unique ways. Luckily I excel at portraits but I had to push myself in regards to my composition, angling, lighting, posing, etc etc. I'm a natural light photographer so having to strictly shoot in the studio was new to me.

The plan for this project had to be feasible so my subject had to be someone accessible and a good listener - who else to pick but my loving boyfriend Alex :)

I stepped outside the lines and over-achieved so I had 9 final photos instead of 5 but I'm extremely happy with the outcome for this being my first real studio shoot. Each photo has an underlying meaning that has to do with Alex, but you can figure that out on your own ;)
