11/13/17: Decades - 80s
INTRO: The prompt for my final photo project for Directorial Mode was simple - shoot something you love and that interests me. I love to shoot people, and the past interests me. I decided to split my final project into four different parts - with four different decades. I did intense research on the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, watching movies, looking at old magazines, and reading reading reading. After I reached out to the models I chose, I made an extremely ELABORATE look-book powerpoint breaking down my makeup/clothing/accessory/pose/props/concept expectations to show my models.
To stop this from being an ordinary, basic, vintage wannabe fashion shoot, I wanted to go a step farther and a step deeper. Not only did I research on the fashion of that decade but I read about the social, cultural and political movements going on of that era, and I wanted to portray that with my photos.
PART THREE: The 80s. Sex, drugs, rock and roll. I originally wanted to go the Magnum P.I. route but I couldn't sway away from the birth of the punk era. Disco was dead and people were filing against the police so why not ironically use a police hat as a prop? Black clothes, "coming out" and cigarettes were exceptionally trendy and I combined all of those with the help of my friend, Patrick. You'll see him in magazines one day.
